Summer Skincare Tips

Eye roll.  How many articles have you seen in the past few days about summer skincare tips?  Some of mine are slightly humorous.  Some you may not have thought of before.

Summer is officially here.  Just as you’ve adjusted your clothing and the thermostat, it’s time to adjust how you care for your skin.

Adjust fluid levels.  Water evaporates from our skin and breath, all day every day.  However, we lose more evaporation when it’s hot out as our bodies excrete to cool themselves.  Drink lots of fluids.  Make more of these fluids water based to offset the increased alcohol based fluids we tend to consume during short summers in this part of the world.  Alcohol dehydrates the body.  I want you to have fun but I want you to look good while you’re doing it.

Cool it with the strong exfoliation serums like glycolic acid and also with retinoids.  Retinol serums can create sun sensitivity if used in excess.

Your skin hates hot dogs, beer and chips.  As you fork and fist these things into your mouth, ask yourself, “What does my beautiful face want?”  and augment the boozy, greasy feast with some salad, chopped veggies or fresh fruit.  Your beautiful face will thank you!
