We’ve all learned that some smells or scents are proven to influence mood, energy levels, and sleep. One of the most renowned sleep supportive smell is lavender.
There are other scents that energize and stimulate us. Many people use fragrances like lavender to promote a restful sleep but how many of us are unwittingly using fragrances close to bed time that actually activate us and wake us up?
Peppermint is proven to be energizing for many people when they inhale it. I’ve always been a delicate sleeper and I’ve really battled to get some decent zzz at some points of my life. At one time, I regularly relaxed before bed time with a strongly steeped, pungent cup of peppermint tea. My motivation was to make sure my stomach was calm and my digestion was working so it wouldn’t negatively impact my sleep. I was also applying a lovely peppermint lotion to my tootsies each night before I tucked myself in. Now I know that peppermint is an activating and energizing scent. I’d be better served to have my tea and apply my lotion in the morning!
Another scent that falls into the same category as peppermint is lemon.
So, if you too are a delicate sleeper and you want all the help you can get, take a look at skincare products, body lotions, and teas. It might help even just a little bit to reschedule some of these treats to maximize your chances of getting a deep, restful sleep.
